Diastrophic dwarfism is categorized as either a rhizomelic (sometimes micromelic) dwarfism. In all cases, the limbs are shortened. The majority of cases show rhizomelic shortening (femur and humerus). Although this patient does have diastrophic dwarfism, the limb shortening is more mesomelic (radius and ulna). However, other characteristics of the disease are present, including a flexion contracture at the elbow, and widened metaphyses of the radius and ulna. These deformities result in subluxations at the major joints, characteristic of the disease.
