In the skull, changes of Hurler syndrome consist of premature closure of the sagittal and metopic sutures, resulting in scaphocephaly. The sphenoid bone is hypoplastic, resulting in a "shoe" shaped sella. The skull itself is typically thick with frontal bossing and small facial bones.
